We have been doing DIY Summer Camp for quite a few years now. It has definitely tapered off now that the kids are getting older. We still want to try to get in a couple weeks this year with my youngest. I just wanted to share some of our favorite DIY Summer Camp Activities in case you are looking for some fun ideas for summer this year!
These activities can be modified to fit a variety of themes. Picking out the themes is super fun and then you can plan the activities around the theme. If themes aren’t your thing, just pick some of these fun activities to try and the kids will have a blast!

Ice Cube Painting

This is a great summer painting activity using ice! We used toy penguins as handles but craft sticks will also work. Kids will love making fun paintings with the colorful ice cubes!
Giant Ice Block Excavation

We have done this activity a couple of times in the summer and it is always a big hit! We used toy penguins last year and called it a Penguin Rescue Mission. Then a couple of summers ago we did a Shark Hunt and just colored the ice blue and used plastic shark toys.
Water Squirter Painting

Water Squirter Painting is such a fun outdoor summer art activity! We used red and blue paint for this activity to celebrate 4th of July during our Patriotic Week! It would be fun with any color though.
Balloon Tennis

This activity has been one of our favorites! Balloon Tennis is a fun and easy activity for all ages. It only takes a couple of supplies to create the rackets and then you can let the fun begin! We have done this at home and at the park with friends.
Making Oobleck

Making Ocean Oobleck is a great outdoor activity since it might get a little messy! This is another one we did for Shark Week. It would also be a great activity for a beach or ocean theme.
Snack Crafts

Snack crafts are probably the best summer camp activities! Kids will love making them and eating them too! Some of our favorites have been dirt cups, butterfly cookies, shark quesadillas, beach graham crackers and rainbow pretzel snacks.
I hope this gives you some fun ideas for summer camp activities! These are some of my favorite memories and I’m excited to make even more this summer. The kids will be out of school soon! This summer may be focused more on tween craft ideas and activities.
