Fun Watercolor Spray Painting Activity

A few years ago my daughter requested a Backyard Art Party for her birthday. It was super simple and this Fun Watercolor Spray Painting Activity was a hit with the girls.

The best part of this activity is being able to use up all of our old markers and turn them into something new. This is an excellent craft for recycling and would also be a great activity for Earth Day.

Creating watercolor paint from dried up markers.

We created the watercolors in spray bottles I found at Dollar Tree. To make this watercolor spray paint we used all of our dried out markers. It is super easy to do!

First we collected all the dried out markers in our collection. Then we sorted them by color. Next remove the caps and place them upside down in the spray bottles. Once the markers are in place, add water to the bottles leaving a little room at the top so it doesn’t overflow when you put the sprayers back on.

We did this part a couple of hours before the party but I don’t think you have to wait that long before you start seeing the watercolors appear in the bottles.

Watercolor Spray Painting Activity

The Watercolor Spray Painting was the perfect activity for an art themed party! We did this activity on a large canvas but I think it would turn out even better on craft paper.

I just hung the canvas on the fence in our backyard. This was easy to do by cutting two slits in the top of the canvas and then tying it to the posts with string. Then the girls lined up with the different spray bottles of paint and took turns spraying the canvas.

We have also done a similar painting activity using water squirters as one of our summer art projects for DIY Summer Camp. If you like simple art activities, check out our Summer Art Week Crafts and Activities.
