Looking for a simple party idea for kids? Having a Backyard Art Party can be an easy and fun way to throw a celebration! We did this a few years ago for our daughter’s birthday. It would also be a fun party for back to school or to celebrate any occasion.

Having a Backyard Art Party is not only simple, it is also very inexpensive! You can find almost everything you need at Dollar Tree.

Easy Set Up for Backyard Art Party

To set up for the Backyard Art Party, I used two folding tables and set them up in our backyard. Then we covered the tables with disposable table covers. I gathered all of our paint and paint brushes and set those out on the table.

We used egg cartons to hold the paints. That makes clean up super easy. Dollar Tree also has individual paint palettes that you could also use for this. Then you just need water cups for rinsing the paint brushes and paper towels or old cloths for drying them.

Canvas Tape Resist Art Project

For the actual art project, we chose to do tape resist art on a canvas. The canvases can also be purchased at Dollar Tree. Before the girls arrived, I had used masking tape to create each of their first initials on a canvas.

We did the art project first at the party so the paint would have time to dry for them to take it home. The girls had a blast painting their own designs on the canvas.

Once the paint dries, the tape can be pulled off and they can see their beautiful creations! We did a similar project several years ago with a larger canvas. That time we used their full name for the artwork. The smaller canvas and using only the first initial is the perfect activity for a larger number of kids and to do at a party.

Simple Art Themed Party Favors

I also kept it simple for the party favors! I picked up cute paint sets, small canvases, and party bags at Dollar Tree. I put those together with ribbon I already had for a quick and easy party favor for the girls.

Fun Art Party Activity

For a fun party activity, we tried a fun water color spray painting activity. We created the watercolors in the spray bottles using all of our dried out markers. It is super easy to do! We did this activity on a large canvas but I think it would turn out even better on craft paper.

Easy Party Cake Idea

When we did this party, my daughter asked for a donut cake as the birthday treat. This was the easiest cake ever! This cake topper I found was very inexpensive and perfect for the donuts. To make the cake, just stake donuts on a plate and you are done.

We have done art parties at a local studio in the past. Those are a lot of fun and I like the convenience of it. This was very simple to put together though and saved us a lot of money. The girls had a lot of fun too!
