The countdown to Christmas is on! The kids are home this week and needing activities to keep them busy. This Quick and Easy Snowman Wood Slice Ornament Craft would be a fun group activity.

We did this a couple of weeks ago with our girl scout troop. During one of our meetings we let the girls make the ornaments. Then we had a cute handmade ornament to give to the assistant living residents that we sing Christmas carols to.

Snowman Wood Slice Ornament Craft Supplies

This simple ornament craft requires only a few supplies! We used Kwik Stix paint sticks since we only had a short time period to get the craft completed. If you have more time, feel free to use white acrylic paint instead.

Wood Slice Ornament Craft Supplies

For the wood slices, I purchased a 2.4-2.8 Inch Craft Wood Kit that came with 30 wooden circles with predrilled holes. It also included natural twine and red and white string for hanging.

Here is a list of all the supplies.

  • White Kwik Stix Paint Sticks (or white acrylic paint)
  • Wood Slices
  • Orange Sharpie Marker
  • Black Sharpie Marker

How to Make Snowman Wood Slice Ornament

To make this easy craft, begin by painting one side of wood slice with the white paint stick. You will need to fully cover the side. It looks better if you do two coats of the white paint.

Once the paint is dry, use the sharpie markers to draw on a snowman face. Use the black sharpie marker for the eyes and mouth. Then draw on the carrot nose with the orange sharpie marker.

I showed the girls an example of one that I had already created. Then we just let them use their own creativity to make their ornaments.

You could also do the snowman on both sides. We chose to do only one and to write a message on the other side. I put these in clear bags with peppermint candy to hand out as we did our holiday caroling. We go to an assistant living center ever year and it is one of my most favorite activities of the season!
