Last week I was grocery shopping in ALDI, when I saw the Red, White, and Blue Twinkies. I haven’t had a Twinkie since childhood but I thought these would be fun to try for the 4th of July. Turns out they were perfect for these easy and delicious patriotic parfaits.

This recipe is super fun for kids to put together for themselves. It would be the perfect party dessert!

Ingredients for Patriotic Parfaits

This easy patriotic recipe requires only a few ingredients. If you can’t find the seasonal Twinkies, then the original variety would also work well for this. We used Twinkies, strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream. You can also add festive sprinkles to the top.

  • Red, White, & Blue Twinkies
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • whipped topping
  • sprinkles (optional)
Patriotic Parfaits with Twinkies

I washed and prepped the berries before we started making the recipe. Any red or blue colored berries will work. We kept it simple and only used strawberries and blueberries.

I let the kids use a kids safe knife to cut up their own Twinkie Snack Cake. A plastic knife would also work well for this.

Then they added a little bit of the cake to a clear plastic cup. Next they added a layer of berries and then covered it in whipped topping. Repeat those layers until they fill the cup or use up all of their cake…..whichever comes first! My kids love being able to squirt the whipped topping in the cup themselves.

Once they finished all the layers, you can add a few sprinkles. This is such a festive treat! Plus it gets them to eat their fruit.

I love simple recipes like this! We have also done a Patriotic Toast recipe that is great for an easy breakfast. For a cute dessert, try our Patriotic Popcorn Cake. These are all great recipes for kids to help with.
