We kicked off our second theme of DIY Summer Camp {Camp Mom} today! We decided to start our 4th of July Week on a Wednesday since the holiday falls midweek. This Patriotic Popcorn Cake was a fun way to get it started and it was also perfect for this week’s Pinterest Challenge Project! We are on Week 26 now of the Pinterest Challenge. That means we are halfway through the year already! I had saved the pin for this fun recipe to my Holiday Treats Board a few weeks ago. It seemed like a fun and easy recipe to make with the kids.
One of the fun parts of this recipe is using the Patriotic M&M’s but I could not find them anywhere! I’m not sure if they were sold out or if they just didn’t make them this year. I also could not find Patriotic Sprinkles. We had our hearts set on this recipe though so I decided to improvise. We bought two bags of regular M&M’s and sorted out all the red and blue colored ones. This was actually a good activity for the kids. I still had sprinkles left from other holidays so we were able to use some of those.
Patriotic Popcorn Cake Recipe
This Patriotic Popcorn Cake Recipe is super easy and only requires a few simple ingredients! Here are the ingredients we used:
- 12 oz package marshmallows
- 6 Tbsp butter
- 5 oz bag of butter popcorn (10 cups)
- 1 cup red and blue M&M’s
- Sprinkles
First melt the butter in the microwave for 45 seconds. Then add the marshmallows and toss to coat. Microwave for another minute or until the marshmallows are melted. Add the popcorn and mix well.
Let the mixture cool and then add the M&M’s. You don’t want to add them too soon because they will melt. This recipe would really be fun for any holiday. All you have to do is change up the color of the M&Ms.
Stir in the M&M’s until it is thoroughly mixed. Press the mixture into a prepared bundt pan. Let it set for at least 15 minutes before turning it onto a serving plate. You can press some sprinkles into the top of the cake if you desire.
If you are taking this to a party, you could add some cute patriotic picks to dress it up. This would definitely be a fun dessert to share at a 4th of July barbecue! This hand-held, no-bake treat is perfect for kids and they will love helping you make it too!

This looks like so much fun to make! I love how it probably won’t melt when I try to transport it to the picnic either. A plus in summer heat. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe!
