This week is the pumpkin decorating contest at my daughter’s school! She loves creating something for this competition every year. We have never won but maybe that will change this year with this creative Popcorn Bucket Pumpkin Decorating Idea.
Last year she did a Maleficent Pumpkin to coordinate with her costume. We have also done a Boston Terrier and an Elsa Pumpkin Craft for this pumpkin decorating contest.

Popcorn Bucket Pumpkin Supplies
This Popcorn Bucket Pumpkin only uses a few supplies. The main item is a large white craft pumpkin. We found this on sale at Michael’s Craft Store a few weeks ago. This pumpkin from Amazon would also work but looks like it may be a little smaller.

Here is a list of supplies we used for this popcorn bucket pumpkin idea.
- Large White Craft Pumpkin
- White and Red Acrylic Paint
- Popcorn Box or Bag
- Popcorn (We used Skinny Pop)
- Paint Brushes
- Hot Glue Gun
For the Popcorn Box, I had my son bring home his box of popcorn from a football game. They have popcorn bags at Dollar tree that would probably also work for the popcorn sign.
Creating a No Carve Popcorn Bucket Pumpkin
The first step to this pumpkin craft is to paint the design. We started with the red paint by painting a scallop line near the top of the pumpkin. Then we painted the red lines and let those dry before doing the white lines.
Even though we had a white pumpkin, we still painted the white since the pumpkin wasn’t a bright white. We also painted above the scallop line and the stem with white paint.

While the paint is drying, go ahead and cut out the popcorn sign from the bag or box that you are using. Then you can glue it onto the pumpkin once the paint is dry.
Then glue the popcorn to the top of the pumpkin using a hot glue gun. My daughter did most everything for this pumpkin craft except for the glue gun. We had originally ordered fake popcorn for this craft but the package did not contain enough pieces. So we decided to use the Skinny Pop popcorn from our pantry and it ended up working great!
