Kid-Approved Nut-Free Homemade Granola

Have you ever tried making your own granola cereal? It is so easy and tastes way better than the store bought variety! I’ve made a few different recipes before but decided I wanted to try making a nut-free version. Some of the schools and camps around here do not allow snacks or lunches containing nuts. This Nut-Free Homemade Granola is easy to make and a recipe we will all eat!

I decided to use oats, Cheerios, puffed rice and sunflower seeds. You could always add in dried fruit or coconut flakes as well.

Easy Nut-Free Granola

Nut-Free Homemade Granola Recipe

Here is the recipe I came up with:

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups oats
  • 1 cup Cheerios
  • 1 cup Puffed Rice
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Combine the first 7 ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Melt the butter and honey together in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and salt. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and mix together. Press into a jelly roll pan. Bake at 275 degrees for 60 minutes.

Graylie enjoyed helping me mix all of the dry ingredients together. This is a great recipe for your little helpers! I have realized they tend to eat healthy treats better when they help make them!

Once they have cooled, you can cut them into bars or crumble it into a bowl if you prefer. This time I did a little of both. I also just like to break it into pieces and store it in an air tight container.

Granola makes a great breakfast!

This Nut-Free Homemade Granola is one of my favorite breakfasts. I like to have it over yogurt or as cereal with berries and bananas. If you like chocolate, be sure to check out our easy recipe for Homemade Chocolate Granola!

This is such an awesome recipe. It’s sad that there are so many children and grown adults now that have nut allergies. When I was growing up no one I knew was affected this way. I’m going to bookmark your recipe for when my grandkids come over. Thank you!

Same here! My kids are not big fans of nuts. That was the main reason I decide to try the Cheerios and Puffed Rice! Hope your little guy likes it too!
