Valentine Book Inspired Craft for Siblings

I am so excited to be included in the Love Is Kind Valentine Book Tour! We had actually been reading this book when the author, Laura Sassi, invited us to be included in this fun event. We created this Heart Banner Kindness Activity to go along with her beautiful book.

This book has such a sweet story about a little owl who wants to buy his grandmother a gift. Along the way he is faced with numerous obstacles but always chooses to do the kind act. In the end his grandmother showed him that the love he had spread was better than any gift he could have ever given her.

LOVE IS KIND SIBLING CRAFT

I just love this story so much and always strive to encourage kindness is my own children. It makes me so happy to hear from a teacher that one of them has shown kindness to another child at school. Like most siblings they do tend to need more help showing kindness to each other!

One of my favorite activities to do with them is so simple. We love to color! I created this Love Is Kind Coloring Sheet for them. One afternoon while we were coloring, we talked about what we loved about each other.

Creating a Kindness Heart Banner is super simple! You just need paper or foam hearts. You could even cut the hearts out yourself. Then you will also need a piece of ribbon or string and a hold punch.

I had picked up a package of foam hearts at Dollar Tree and they were perfect for this. While they colored, I wrote what they loved about each other on the foam hearts. They took turns telling me one thing they loved about their brother or sister.

Then I punched a hole on each side of the hearts. I strung a piece of ribbon through the holes so we could hang it in our reading nook. This ended up being very similar to our Have You Filled A Bucket Today activity that we did over the summer during Kindness Week.

If you would like a Love Is Kind coloring sheet, I have turned ours into a Free Printable that you can print from a PDF file. It’s a beautiful coloring page to encourage kindness any time of year!
