Ornament crafts are so much fun to make! This Mini Canvas Ornament Craft is a great activity for kids and would be perfect for a group or class party. Kids will love painting their own mini canvas to make these adorable ornaments.
Every December our Girl Scout Troop goes caroling at an assistant living facility. We started making ornaments to have something to hand out to the residents there. Last year the girls made Snowman Wood Slice Ornaments. Those are super cute and easy to make as well.

Mini Canvas Ornament Kid Craft
The girls created these ornaments as part of their art and design badge. We talked about abstract art and how it differs from other art. Then they worked on creating abstract art on the mini canvases.
We used a variety of paint colors to create these canvas ornaments. I recommend getting metallic gold and silver paints to go with the additional paint colors.
Once the girls were done painting, these ornaments had to dry for a while. If you are doing this as a group, you will want to give yourself plenty of time for this.
Since we did this project during a Girl Scout Meeting, I took the mini canvases home with me to finish putting them together. The finishing touch is adding a small piece of gold or silver cording to the back to create the ornament hanger. I attached this with a hot glue gun.
Ornament Gifts for Kids to Make
These ornaments made such a cute gift for the assistant living residents. I tied them up in a cellophane bag with some soft peppermints. Then used red curling ribbon to tie them closed.
This art activity would also make a great gift for students to give to parents. Kids will love to see their artwork hanging on the Christmas tree!
