For Week 32 of the 52 Weeks of Pinterest Challenge, I am sharing how to make a Rainbow Castle with Lego Duplo Blocks. I was inspired to build a rainbow from legos by this pin from Little Bins For Little Hands. You should check that one out because it is way more polished than ours! We are in the middle of the Rainbow Week Theme for our DIY Summer Camp {Camp Mom} so this ended up being the perfect activity yesterday morning.
Use your Lego collection to build a rainbow castle.
We have always been a fan of Legos. Most of our Lego Duplo Blocks have been around since Gavin was a toddler. It is such a classic toy that everyone enjoys playing with. When I first decided to build the Lego Rainbow, I thought we might go with the classic legos. We have quite a collection of those too. My four year old still has a hard time working with those so we went with the Duplo Blocks.

A Color Sorting Activity is great for preschoolers!
We started the project by sorting our basic bricks by color. This color sorting activity is great for toddlers or preschoolers. We store all of our lego sets together in a large basket that matches the decor of our downstairs reading/craft room.
Use a large basket to store Legos.
Once we had the legos sorted, we started trying to build the rainbow starting with the inside color of violet. I am not sure that we did this process correctly since our rainbow did not look quite as smooth as the original pin. It was so much fun to build though.
Mix various Lego sets to build a fun creation!
Once we had the rainbow built, we started adding pieces to it. We knew we had to include the treasure box at the base of our rainbow. We also had so many fun pieces from a Sofia the First Royal Castle Set. Once we started adding those, the project took the turn to becoming a Rainbow Castle. This set must be discontinued now but I am putting the sets for Princess Bell’s Tea Party and Princess Rapunzel’s Tower on our wish list.
Once we had the Rainbow Castle completed, we decided to build the princesses their very own playground. This was inspired by the slide that was included in our Doc McStuffins Backyard Clinic set. We could have done a lot more with this LEGO Duplo Playground Brick Box though. That is also going on our wish list!
We had so much fun building this Rainbow Castle creation together! Playing with these LEGO Duplo blocks is definitely one of my favorite activities to do with the kids. It is fun to see their imaginations run wild! Plus it makes me feel good that they are doing a screen free activity and sharpening their fine motor skills in the process.
