Cardmaking Using Paper Scraps

It has been a few months since I’ve scrapbooked. Last spring I started a scrapbooking challenge where I would use a kit each month to get three layouts completed. I really enjoyed that and hope to start it up again soon. When I was using the kits, there would always be paper and embellishments left over. Of course, I kept all of that in hopes that I would eventually use it. I have been collecting them for months in my craft cabinet.

Scrapbooking paper scrapsI decided this week of the 52 Weeks of Pinterest Challenge would be the perfect time to do something with some of those paper scraps. I am always pinning scrapbooking and card making tips and projects. This particular pin uses a technique to use up paper scraps to make card backgrounds.

I realized I had quite a collection of these scraps of kits to choose from. I chose to use the Prickly Pear Collection from Close to My Heart. I love the bright colors and fun patterns in this collection. Once I chose the collection I was using, I pulled out all the paper scraps. The idea behind this pin is to cut the paper into strips and adhere it to a piece of light weight cardstock.

You really don’t even need a kit to do this. You could just go through your paper scraps and choose patterns and colors that could work together. The kit just made this process super simple for me. Once I had the strips adhered to the cardstock, I was able to cut six different background pieces for the cards.

Once I had the background pieces adhered to the cards, I just added a few embellishments that were also leftover from the kit to finish off the cards. It only took about an hour to make these cards. This worked out great for me since my card supply has been running low for a while. I was really pleased with how fun and cute these cards turned out. Now I am anxious to pull out another kit so I can work on another set of cards.

This wraps up another great week of the Pinterest Challenge. It might actually be my favorite project this year! As always, I would love for you to join me and our small Facebook group called 52 Weeks of Pinterest – 2018 Challenge. We would love to have more members to share ideas with!

Thank you for giving me an idea of what to do with all my scrap papers. I hate to toss pretty paper scraps away and this inspired me to create some wall art with them 🙂
